Zhao trounces Onodera to book semi-final berth in China


Junpeng Zhao was far too much for Yusuke Onodera as the former cruised into the semi-finals by beating the latter 11-5, 13-12, 11-3.


The China International Challenge is one of the first Badminton tournaments of 2017 and the second seed for the tournament, Zhao, seems to be on track to win it.

In his quarter-final against Onodera he displayed wonderful composure, intensity and dexterity to see-off the Japanese shuttler with ease.

The only time Zhao was troubled was in the second game but he dominated the big moments and ensured he took the game and so played out the third with very little pressure on himself.

In the days other men’s quarter-finals, Xin Wu beat Kai Guo 11-1, 11-3, 13-11, Feixiang Sun disposed of Junfeng Gu 5-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 and Siyuan Zhu saw off the challenge of Kantaphon Wangcharoen 11-8, 11-8, 3-11, 13-10.

The results from the women’s quarter-finals can be seen below:

Xiaoxin Chen beat Meng Zhou 13-10, 13-12, 11-9.

Yanyan Cai beat Qin Peng 3-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-5.

Ayumi Mine beat Yiman Zhang 11-9, 11-8, 11-6.

Zhiyi Wang beat Yue Han 11-5, 7-11, 13-1-, 11-5.
