Police Chief advises new officers to be ready to face complex problems

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian advised newly graduated officers at the Police Science College (PTIK) to be prepared to face increasingly complex problems.

“We hope that the police, in the future, are not just ordinary police, because our society is getting smarter and the community’s problems are more complex in a country this large, so it is necessary for officers who are intellectual, academic, scientific and have many references,” said Tito Karnavian, after leading a graduation ceremony for hundreds of officers at the PTIK Auditorium here on Monday.

He said that officers, in addition to understanding many problems, must also be able to answer problems quickly and accurately, while establishing communications with all parties.

For this reason, and in regards to security in the country, the National Police Chief considers that not just ordinary officers are needed, but academic officers who answer problems with scientific techniques and methodologies.

Since its establishment in 1946, PTIK has awarded thousands of undergraduate degrees, hundreds of S2 (strata 2) and dozens of S3 (strata 3).

Regarding the 73rd Anniversary of PTIK, the National Police Chief praised the founder of the police science school, noting that he succeeded in making police science a separate field of study.

“We are grateful that 73 years of PTIK can still survive and continue to grow,” he said.

PTIK is also expected to be a university that is not only owned by the police, but also the community, and even develop into a source for resolving police problems.
