Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government is considering building prisons (Lapas) on remote islands to house prisoners convicted of corruption, terrorism and narcotics offenses.
“Yes, there have been thoughts, thoughts of going there to make a prison (prison) specifically for corruption, terrorism and narcotics offenses. In fact, we have also thought about how we use remote islands,” said Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto in his office in Jakarta on Monday.
Wiranto said the government was responding to the convicted Setya Novanto e-KTP (electronic Identity Card) corruption case.
According to the former commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces, Novanto could take advantage of his prison being close to the city.
Following an incident in which Novanto was seen by an overhead flight in Padalarang, West Java, Novanto appeared to be wearing a short-sleeved shirt, a black hat and his face was covered by a mask.
Following this incident, Novanto was transferred from Sukamiskin Prison to Gunung Sindur Detention Center, Bogor District, West Java.
